The older i get the more able i am to see clearly what have been right choices, and wrong choices throughout my life. Falling onto the side of ‘Right’ has been my willingness, and desire to stay in touch with (however infrequently) family and friends who i’ve held dear.
This extends to my many school friends, who again, as we mature (cough) have become even more precious to me, i was reminded of this when i found the above old photo of myself and Grant, one of my best friends all through school, and the most recent one of us taken a couple of weeks ago. There is a lot to be said for being able to sit down with people who you’ve known since you were four or five years old.
You can’t bullshit these people, they know your story from the very begining, and that brings a level of comfort you could never put a price on.
Family lore has it that this was my introduction to the wonderous world of munting, and that i ended up shit faced, and found unconscious under a table. I was already cognisant of how amazing my legs were going to be, and knew to hitch up my pants to get maximum leg into the photo.
As a friend pointed out, the Jack o’lantern has a cleft pallate, how strange.
So, I’m loving where I live, great people, tolerant of my blaring music . . however . . the guy upstairs is learning to play the banjo, and he’s going great guns, alas, no one has pointed out to him that an instrument needs to be tuned, at least once every ten years.
I have practice in tricking tone deaf banjo players into letting me tune up for them, I wonder if I should invoke this trickery, or should I grit my ears and not risk being the asshole neighbor? (albeit one with bleeding ears).
Like many TV stars, Mr Squiggle ended his career a drug fucked mess, with a coke nose* the envy of Hollywood. *True, he had a pencil, not a nose, but i’m sure there are people out there who would find snorting through a pencil no problemo.
The more I see Russell brand the more I ‘really’ like, if only that he’s somebody with passion (remember that old thing?)’. In this interview at last somebody stabs the elephant in the room. Considering Australia has just recently been handed over to an insane, inept, immoral government in a media driven coup d’état, Russell may actually be one of the few people on this planet willing to call it, and see it how (i perceive) ‘it’ really is.
I share Russells passion and frustration at what is happening to this world (forget governments for a minute, lets add in many/most organized religions as well, with their wealth, power, manipulation and trickery . . of the individual and governments) This is obvious when you see the number of people in our communities unwilling, or incapable of thinking, or acting for themselves. They are prime fodder to be tricked into votes, or to be relieved of having to expend energy on emotion or thought.
I wish i was quite as sure as Russell that people will turn things around, i hope so, because i honestly don’t hold out a shred of hope for humanity to not fall into an abyss of destruction driven by greed, apathy and selfishness. Maybe humanity gets what it deserves.
